Education in Emergency Medicine (DREEAM), Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust
Frank is Head of Service at the Emergency Department, Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) NHS Trust, where he has been a Consultant since 1999. NUH is a Major Trauma Centre and the ED sees over 170,000 new patients a year. Frank is an Associate Professor and Clinical Director of the MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice at the University of Nottingham, and Visiting Professor to the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
Throughout his career Frank has aspired to collaborative and partnership working. In 2012 he founded DREEAM (Department of Research and Education in Emergency medicine, Acute medicine and Major trauma), an innovative NHS academic unit that has a multiprofessional, multidisciplinary ethos and seeks to integrate education, research, prevention and clinical practice in a manner appropriate for the rapid pace of change of 21st Century healthcare. Involvement in the Nottinghamshire Urgent and Emergency Partnership is a logical progression for DREEAM. Frank has a passion for football, which he shares with his 5 sons, and is pitch side doctor at Nottingham Forest Football Club.

Ben joined the King’s Fund in 2015 as a project director, working for the Chief Executive and across the Fund, including on policy and supporting the NHS in developing new care models.
Before joining the Fund, Ben worked as a management consultant. He has advised central government and the national bodies on a wide range of issues including economic regulation, provider finance, the provider failure regime and new organisational models. He has also worked with large numbers of NHS purchasers and providers on strategic and operational challenges.
In his earlier career, Ben was a fast stream trainee and manager within central government and an advisor at the European Commission. He has academic training in industrial economics and business strategy.

Harry is a researcher in the policy team. Before joining the Fund in 2016, Harry worked for three years at Ipsos MORI’s Social Research Institute, focusing on health research, working with a range of health sector organisations, including NHS England and the Department of Health. At Ipsos MORI, Harry worked on the GP Patient Survey, and also had a special interest in speaking to the public about their health data and in emerging health technologies.
He holds a Masters in European language, culture and history from UCL.

Andrew is the Chief Information Officer for Taunton Somerset NHS Foundation Tust one of the national Global Digital Exemplar sites.

He led the team delivering a range of integrated clinical systems including electronic prescribing, assessments and order communications. More recently working with clinicians to implement electronic observations across the Trust. The details are simply entered on held devices at the bedside to help identify patients who are deteriorating and may need intervention.
Delighted to have joined the Trust. Looking forward to working with the excellent IM& T team. We will work very closely with the clinical teams and divisions to make high quality information available where it is needed and to make our computer applications intuitive, safe and easy to use. The focus will be making them mobile and more integrated. We have unique and exciting opportunity with the funding and the status that comes with being a Global Digital Exemplar site to work closely with clinicians and improvement team to create a digital hospital over the next few years.

Nottingham CityCare became a social enterprise spin out under ‘Transforming Community Services’ in 2011 where Karen took up the role of Deputy CEO and Director of Business & Marketing until taking retirement in 2015 returning as part time Dep Director of Business and Marketing. As a researcher in the policy team, Matthew contributes to the Fund's research and analysis on a range of projects across health and social care policy and practice. His recent work has covered pressures in general practice and the integration of mental and physical health care.
Matthew has a special interest in the relationship between health care, public policy and digital technology, and writes about how new technology can be deployed in the health system. He is a member of the scientific committee for the Fund’s annual Digital Health and Care Congress.
Before joining the Fund, Matthew worked as a researcher and co-ordinator at the Innovation Unit, a social enterprise that works with public services to reshape the services they deliver. Matthew has also worked as an intern at University College London's Constitution Unit.
He holds a philosophy, politics and economics degree from Oxford University.

DeepMind Health) was set up to build mobile tools and use AI research to help get patients from test to treatment as quickly and accurately as possible. Dominic is the Clinical Lead at DMH, making sure that all the teams work is driven by input from clinicians and patients, and backed by robust clinical evidence. He is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer in Surgery at Imperial College London, where he previously worked as an academic general surgeon. Dominic's research interests lie in digital health, health policy and behavioural economics. As part of his PhD, he co-authored the Cabinet Office Mindspace report, which served as the initial operating framework for the Behavioural Insights Team, established by UK Prime Minister David Cameron. He has published research in the Lancet, BMJ and Health Affairs and contributed to sessions at the World Economic Forum and Tech Crunch Disrupt. The clinical app company Dominic co-founded, Hark, was acquired by DeepMind in early 2016 and has been incorporated into the Streams clinical system being deployed in NHS hospitals.

Marcel Levi (1964) is Professor of Medicine and Chief Executive at University College London Hospitals. His previous position was Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Board Chairman of the Academic Medical Center/University of Amsterdam. After his medical specialization he obtained his PhD with honours and was appointed as a Fellow by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Science. He worked at the University of Perugia, Italy and the Center for Transgene Technology and Genetherapy of the University of Leuven, Belgium. He has published more than 700 articles in international scientific journals, has been awarded a number of international research awards, and serves as an associate editor for several scientific journals. He was chairman of the Netherlands Organization for Medical Research (ZON-MW) and was elected as a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Science (KNAW) and is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in the UK.

Professor Heather Tierney-Moore OBE is Chief Executive of Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust. With a background in nursing, Heather has a distinguished track record of achievement in the NHS at board and national level in England and Scotland. She has an MSc in Managing Change and is a visiting professor at Edinburgh Napier University. Heather also has a key leadership role in supporting system wide transformation in order to deliver integrated health care services for the population across Lancashire and the wider North West. Claire has been with the HCA UK Joint Ventures division since its inception in 2006, holding various senior leadership roles before taking on the role of CEO in 2016. Ashley joined DeepMind Health in Nov 2017 as our Senior Nurse Advisor working across teams and functions firstly to guide our clinician led ‘safety by design’ approach to clinical product strategy, design, development and deployment, and secondly to provide a nurse and healthcare provider perspective to the DeepMind Health strategy, partnerships and patient engagement.

Ashley brings over 20 years of clinical practice, senior hospital management and quality and patient safety expertise to the team. Having worked as a Burns and Plastic Surgery Nurse Specialist, Ashley subsequently held several senior nurse roles in the NHS and the Private Healthcare provider sector including as Group Director of Nursing and Risk for HCA International. Within these roles she was responsible for delivery of large scale quality improvement and Clinical IT deployment projects across hospitals and groups. In 2014 Ashley joined VitalPAC as Nurse Director for the mobile clinical solutions, and completed her MSc in Quality and Patient Safety at Imperial College in 2015.

Professor Lionel Tarassenko

Professor Lionel Tarassenko is Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Oxford. He was the driving force behind the creation of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, which he directed from its opening in April 2008 to October 2012. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (2000), and a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences (2013). He was made a CBE for services to engineering in 2012.
In 1996, he received a British Computer Society Medal for his work on analysis of sleep disorders. His work on mobile phones for healthcare was awarded the E-health 2005 Innovation Award for “best device to empower patients”. He received the 2006 Silver Medal of the Royal Academy of Engineering for his contribution to British engineering leading to market exploitation and he won the Institute of Engineering & Technology IT Award, also in 2006. In 2010, he gave the Vodafone lecture on m-health at the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Centenary Lecture on Biomedical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore. He received the 2015 Martin Black Prize for the best paper in Physiological Measurement.
Professor Tarassenko is a world-leading expert in the application of signal processing and machine learning to medical systems, with a strong track record in translation to clinical medicine. He is the author of 220 journal papers, 190 conference papers and 3 books. He holds 30 granted patents and has founded four University spin-out companies, all in the med tech sector. The latest of these is Oxehealth, which brings together computer vision and AI for healthcare. He is also a Director of the University of Oxford’s technology transfer company and the current Head of the Department of Engineering Science.

Lillie joined The King's Fund as a Fellow in the policy team in August 2014. Her work at the Fund has included a joint project with the Health Foundation on a transformation fund for the NHS, and the development of integrated commissioning options to build on the work of the Barker Commission on the future of health and social care. Lillie is currently working on a project exploring the impact of financial pressures in the NHS on patients’ access to quality care.
Before joining the Fund Lillie worked in the health team within PricewaterhouseCoopers’ advisory practice, where she supported NHS organisations on a range of assignments including public procurement projects, organisational and commercial change and strategy development projects. While at PwC, Lillie spent 18 months on a secondment to the Department of Health's NHS Group where she worked on provider policy.

  • Hear about how the LIFT partnership model works to share estates expertise with NHS partners across the country.

The LIFT initiative provides public sector organisations with the means to upgrade existing facilities, and where necessary to develop entirely new premises and estates.

The UK’s first combined Dental Hospital and Dental School in 40 years was delivered swiftly through innovative partnership working, using LIFT (Local Improvement Finance Trust) to realise the vision of the University of Birmingham and the NHS working together to deliver a single world class service and secure the future of dental training in the region.
As a model for supporting primary and community health integration, the LIFT initiative has delivered £2.5billion of investment into 339 facilities through public private partnerships.
